Chardonnay - Domaine Sonoma
Domaine Sonoma / Saint George Winery has received a unique recognition of its efforts to be an environmentally sound business: the "Sonoma Green Business" award. This distinction is awarded by a coalition of environmentally concerned agencies and citizens throughout Sonoma County and includes representationfrom the United States Environmental Protection Agency. A single comprehensive visit by the Green Business evaluation team determined that all of the winery’s production activities, including energy and water conservation, waste water management, pollution prevention, recycling, waste reduction andvineyard management met or exceeded coalition standards. Only 10 of the 130 wineries in Sonoma County have received this coveted award.
Our Chardonnay is 100% Alexander Valley Sonoma County. Production method is the more austere French style which is becoming increasingly popular in the wine market. Grapes were harvested with lower sugar levels, higher acids, and were stainless steel fermented, resulting in a clean crisp citrus infused Chardonnay that retains the original aroma and bouquets of the Chardonnay grape. We aged the wine for four months with a minimum of French oak prior to bottling.
The oak added just a hint of vanilla bean as well as adding additional mouth feel and texture (smooth).
Characteristics: Crisp, dry Chardonnay with hints of grapefruit, apples, and vanilla (from the French oak) with a smooth, long, full finish while still retaining the aroma and flavors of the Chardonnay grape.
